North East Digital Awards 2008
I nominated Ragnarok Radio, the heavy metal podcast I run to be in the North East Digital Awards.
Its getting close to the time when public voting closes and nominations are opened up to the judges. When I initially came to looking at the site I kinda thought there were a lot of categories which could prove potentially confusing. There are three overall categories and then within them extra categories covering stuff like SEO, accessibility and animation.
Personally I kinda think it would have been better to separate the awards slightly differently since things like podcasting are more for pure entertainment whereas a lot of categories are more business orientated.
I’d also really like Ragnarok to win, I put alot of my time and effort into running it along with all the other members of staff on the show who freely put time into it. Since we earn no money out of doing it, its more something we do for pleasure getting some kind of recognition out of it. Unfortunately in the podcasting category we’re up against Tyne and Wear museums show who more than likely have a bigger fan base that we do and get greater exposure from being on such a well used site.
The awards themselves are still pretty small and only started in 2007, winners from entries to the awards also get through to The Journal’s digital awards which we would have even less chance of winning! Still its the sort of thing to stay positive about especially since at Ragnarok someday we hope to be just as big as Metal Hammer.
Anyway this year the awards are being held at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle so hopefully I’ll be able to attend!
